OK, I don't entirely agree with Stacey Pressman's entire article -- but if I haven't had as horrible reactions from guys as she has, it's probably because many of the guys I know/have known are not that in to sports, so therefore they do not feel threatened. But I certainly have made my own excuses about why I know -- to refer to last night's Trivial Pursuit game -- the name of the Russian pole vaulter who set a continuous string of world records from the 1970s through early 1990s (Sergei Bubka). Why did I say "My father's really into track" when everyone reacted to how quickly I knew that instead of "I like sports, and I remember following Bubka's career at the Olympics and reading about him in Sports Illustrated"? Anyway, ESPN gets kudos for addressing issues about women sports fans, which many other networks (ahem, FOX) like to pretend don't exist.

Regarding the above mentioned Trivial Pursuit game, I had a very nice, quiet birthday party last night. I wish Leor and Dan and Kathleen could have come, but I knew having a party on the day Spring Break started was going to miss a few people. I thought about going ice skating, but it was turning into so much work to organize, and finally I just asked myself what I wanted. That turned out to be a birthday cake and ice cream. So that's what I had. And a rum and coke and a beer and some chips and salsa ... But it was fun to finally have people over to my apartment for a change; we really have a perfect apartment for parties. Oh, I REALLY don't want to have to move! Is it a bad thing to really, really, hope your roommate's fiancee gets a job in Connecticuit so she will move out and leave you the lease?
