Sports On Monday Week 2
Previous Entry :: Next Entry

Just in time for my second Sports on Monday entry, Redbird Nation has posted an interesting formula for figuring the "Drama Quotient" (DQ) of baseball games. Basically they assigned point values to various things that happen in ball games; the higher the total, the more exciting a game supposedly was. However, the post makes it pretty clear that not only does their formula need some adjusting, but a lot of the things that make baseball fun and surprising are simply intangible ... especially from a box score. But it's an interesting theory anyway.

So without further delay .... the past week's scores!
College Football
University of Oklahoma 20, Alabama 13
Oklahoma State 48, Wyoming 24

Pro Football
Washington 16, NY Jets 13

Major League Baseball
St. Louis Cardinals 75-69 (3-5 last week), 3rd place NL Central 1.5 games back (of freakin' Chicago) 4.5 games back of wild card leader Philadelphia.

Well, it was a good college football week -- the 'Bama game was close, but considering the week many other ranked teams had, I'll take the fact that we won in Tuscaloosa and got out of there safely as a bonus. (Plus scoring the clinching touchdown on a drive that included a fake punt was just super cool.) The Jets look pretty stupid for letting all their players go to Washington ... I fear it's going to be a long season. And baseball I fear it's just about over for my beloved Birdies. There's still a chance, but we need the Cubbies to choke big time against the Expos, and to sweep Houston this weekend. I just don't think we have enough gas left.

Sports on Monday SportsPerson of the Week:
Bob Stoops, OU head coach. Because calling fake punts deep in your own territory takes a lot of guts.
