Link o' the Day: Faans

Alas, very little in the profound tonight. The Tecumseh story is up to 6,000 words and some revisions have been done. I've done this while managing to get some household chores done _and_ dye my hair (which I've been meaning to do for over a week now). I've been going gray since I was 18. That wasn't a bad thing when I was 19 and trying to get served at package stores. These many years later the whole thing has lost its charm.

I received some good mail today. A picture from Pretty Maggie and my latest freelance check. I've put out the word (and I'll do so here as well) that I'm prepping now to attend the 61st Worldcon in Toronto. If anyone knows of someone selling an attending membership (I don't need to have the voting rights) and/or needs a roomie at the convention hotel who won't be smoking or drinking, then by all means have them contact me. In honor of Worldcon the link-of-the-day leads to the Fans! webcomic. The current storyline is a little dull, so I recommend you go to the beginning of the archives if you're not already familiar with the story and characters. I interviewed T. Campbell for the next issue of _Sleight of Hand_ but lost much of the interview when my old laptop crapped out. As luck would have it, I found portions of it buried in some old e-mail files on my unix system so I may be able to resurrect it after all. (Now if I can just get the other contributors to pony up, I'd be in business.)

West Wing is a repeat tonight so I'll probably be doing more writing after I rinse this dye out of my hair (I write to you now amidst mid-color setting).

The Hollywood book is deep in the editor's hands now so my freelance work is now aimed at the voice acting book by Daws Butler. They layout is a little different from other books I've done, but I have done some research and have a layout design that should work well, be most readable, and be aesthetically pleasing.

Ah. I'm back from the shower and I must say--the difference is not a subtle one. I don't expect tomorrow people at work saying, "Golly, John. There's something different about you, but I can't put my finger exactly right on it. Darn it."

No, instead I expect "Daayyyuummmn! What you do, John? Dye your hair?"

To which I must prepare appropriate responses to which will involve the questioner's intelligence, lineage, and possibly their current childhood nicknames. I expect to have so many in tears tomorrow that some, out of a sense of loss and desperation, will accidently call me "poppa".

And Freud claims there are no accidents.

In any case, the evening rolls on and now that my hair color matches what is appropriate for my calendar age, it is tme for me to hunker down to some work.

Have a good night y'all.
