Link o' the Day: Greg Pickersgill's Memory Hole

So I get home and find a heavy package from the editor of the Hollywood book I've been putting together as one of my freelance typesetting jobs. Too big to be the check for the next job. Maybe it's some comp copies of the Jerry Sohl and William Nolan books.

No. It's 250 pages of line editing needed for the Hollywood book. I thought I was going to faint. With everything else going on, could I handle something like this as well?

Fortunately it wasn't quite as bad as it looked. The original MS hadn't been line-edited before coming to me, which has never happened before, so I had no ill-feeling toward the client. Just mildly irked. Then I looked over the pages and found the edits clearly marked and pretty straightforward. Most of the changes were stylistic and the changes will make an excellent book even better. I readjusted my schedule for the evening and did four chapters out of twenty-two. I figure I can fit it in and around my current schedule without too many tears.

The voice acting book went out in the mail, so that's over with.

I finished THE MAGICIAN today and was mildly disappointed that it didn't reach as deep as other works of Maugham's. Overall, it's not too dissimilar from many horror novels complete with horrific revelations at the end and a firey ending. There was some action, but mostly suspense. I suspect it would make a somewhat decent movie--but not a blockbuster. Still, I'll meditate upon it some more over the week and see if nothing else comes to me. At the very least, the writing was pleasant to read, even if it was a bit thick in spots.

Pretty Maggie comes this weekend and whether or not she realizes it, we're going to the Rhode Island Convention Center at some point to check out the historical exhibit down there. My dad called today just to rave about it. I've been wanting to see it myself for a while. Among many other interesting exhibits, they have original Lovecraft manuscripts on display.

Obscure message to someone who will likely never see this page: "We're going to miss you Roy. It's not fair that you're taking off so soon after I arrive on the scene, but it's been fun while it lasted. I don't know if your nurses let you see your e-mail since you took to bed--but the thoughts are there. Soldier on!"

Today's link is yet another fanzine-related link. It was going to be yesterday's link until I caught on the noise about trying to get efanzines.com and Hugo. Today we're looking at Greg Pickersgill's Memory Hole, a pretty large and useful index to the Memory Hole Permacollection of fanzines. I've recently been hunting for a copy of THRUST, Winter 1978 and found it listed here and will be making arrangements to get a copy. There's some grab-bag options too. Bear in mind, this is a British collection for the most part, and overseas transactions, but it looks tres handy. There are some other fanzine-related links which I highly recommend exploring.

All right. It's back to work for me. Cheers!
