Up and down the Eastern time zone I've been hearing folken complain about the scads of snow they've received. Yesterday. we got our share in Rhode Island. It's been a pretty nippy and wet winter this year. Unusually so.

This is my theory:

Aliens are planning an invasion. They're from a world with a colder general climate than ours, so in preparation of the invasion they're mucking around with our weather systems. While Earth's defense forces are bogged down in the snow and ice, the aliens will swoop in with laser-mounted snowmobiles and shock troops on skis. Our only hope is to have massive amounts of road salt on hand to foil their evil plans.

Or wait until spring.

Have I mentioned lately how much I love internet radio? As I sit at my desk at work, I'm listening to the NBOX Comedy channel. Louis Black. Robin Williams. Jeff Foxworthy. Henny Youngman. They're all there. The humor can be a bit rauncy in places, but the rest make up for that. In about half an hour I'll switch over to NPR out of Los Angeles, and then maybe later a good dose of liberal talk radio at i.e. America. If I'm not in the mood for news, I can listen to Old-Time Radio, Chinese opera, Tibetan chants, Russian or Japanese pop, or bluegrass. A whole channel of just bluegrass! My cup runneth over.

Pretty Maggie and I are moving toward switching to a cable internet connection--this will make listening to the stations easier when I'm home. For those who don't know of what I speak, and have a good internet connection, fire up a copy of iTunes and browser the channel selector. If you don't want/have iTunes, go to Live365.com and check out the offerings there.

Very productive night freelance-wise. Should be likewise productive tonight. I may even get some writing done as well. I've been working on a couple of pieces, and need to get some others edited and out the door.

Onward, ever onward!

Today's link leads to Allen Steele's website. For those who don't know him, he's one of the best science fiction writers around--writing a lot of hard, near-Earth SF. He's spoken in Washington in defense of the space program and is on the Board of Advisros for the Space Frontier Foundation. His Hugo-winning story "The Death of Captain Future" is a ready-made classic. What's mroe, he's an all-round nice guy and usually appear at East coast conventions.

Cheers!
