Music: The Exiles
TV/Movie: Duck Soup
Link o' the Day: Culture Pop by Mike Russell

An upstairs office suite. Two guys sitting at a table. A third behind a camera.

"Okay, we want you to read the lines for The Man in Bar and, if you would, The Killer."

Umm, I was just looking for a bit extra role.

"Well go ahead and read the lines anyway. We'll start you off, OK?"

If you say so, uh, lessee.... "Bitch! You spilled my beer!"

"Very good... and now the Killer..."

Okay, hmmm.... "Never too young.... never too young... never too young..."

"Thank you for coming in!"

A that was a brief, fairly close recreation of a casting call I attended last night. Just for the hell of it. A friend has been an extra in several features, including being the center of a long tracking shot on Showtime's The Brotherhood. I went and signed up at some local casting agencies online, and regaulrly scan Craigslist as Rhode Island usually has one or two film projects going on each year (recent examples: Underdog and Dan in Real Life).

Star of the silver screen. Good god no. But it was an interesting experience, and one that showed me that acting isn't as easy as it looks. I hope I get a callback because I think it'll be fun even if doing a small extra's role.

What if I get asked to play one of the roles they had me read for? After I chuckle for a solid three hours, I'll make sure they know what they're getting in to and ask them to go easy on me. On the plus side, I will accept payment in cigarettes and coffee. (Good coffee. Not that french roast crap.)

I'm still ahead of schedule on the Moonjean book. That should go out to the author tonight--a full day early. Now I have to tackle the SFWA Bulletin whilst waiting for the Jan Wahl changes to make their way back to me. Then it's Whatever Happened To Baby Peggy? which sounds a lot like the short story I wrote that came out in Abominations entitled "Whatever Happened to Baby Charles?"

I actually spoke with the author who is, in fact, Baby Peggy--sometimes called the original child star (although I think I would give that to Jackie Coogan--I've not read the book yet, so I could be wrong). This is the year for me to be chatting it up with personages from the Golden Ages of Hollywood.

Today I'm making brownies. Yesterday's blueberry bread was such a success that I'm just about out of fresh baked goods again.

Today's link goes to Culture Pop by Mike Russell, a neat link with some nice cartoon artwork of an independent variety--butnot the sort to make you want to claw your eyes out.

Cheers!
