I don't do the political thing much here, and I'll try to keep true to that. I don't make any secret that I support Obama with great fervor and excitement. Yes, I supported Hillary first, but as I got to know Obama, and got to know McCain, I think it's pretty damn clear the only way we, as a country, can go if we expect to grow and mature as a society and nation.

And that's all I'll say on the matter until November 5th. On November 4th I'll be working the polls. That will be a first for me. It'll be interesting to get somewhat involved in the whole process. There's a token payment--certainly below my usual hourly--which is nice. The biggest sacrifice to me will not being able to follow the election coverage throughout the day. What I like to do, usually, is find a good news website that does live updating and pretty much follow that. Finger on the pulse of a nation in change and all that. This year I'll have to forego it. And I'll likely miss Comedy Central's special coverage at 10pm.

Ah, the sacrifices we make for democracy.

It's been a bit chilly lately. The furnace arrived, but it's not hooked up yet. My landlord is doing it himself, and being the southern gentleman he is, he takes a southern pace--i.e., un-rushed. Normally I don't see that as a bad thing. In fact it's an attitude that should be emulated more. But yeah, getting a little chilly around Casa de los Gatos. We have a good space heater for the bedroom, but that's it. Tomorrow will get a little warmer, but the evenings are going to be downright frigid.

We should have the heat up in a day or two, tho. And in the meantime, it's wearing layers and, if need be, gloves with the fingers cut off so I can still work. Wouldn't be the first time. As nice as this new furnace should be in our heat efficiency, the house is still a sieve when it comes to insulation. One thing we'll be looking for in houses is superior insulation.

Comedians make the best atheists. Atheists make the best comedians. But religion makes the best comedy. (And the worst tragedy.)

Chew on that, lovers and haters.

And if you think I'm saying this because I'm in the midst of reading Lewis Black's Me of Little Faith then you aren't aware that at this very moment the TV is playing W.C. Fields and Me. Or that Carlin's When Will Jesus Bring the Pork Chops is sitting in the car in my "Emergency Reading" pocket. And that we have plans to see Maher's Religulous this weekend.

I don't consider myself an atheist, but it's a good time to be a devout agnostic.

Today's link goes to the best stick-figure webcomic ever run: Randall Munroe's xkcd.com. Don't be fooled by the artwork. For one thing, good stick figure art is harder than it sounds. It's the writing that is it's greatest strength. Okay, maybe I chose a poor example above, but it's recent, and it made me chuckle. Take some time to scoot through the archives.

You won't be sorry.

Cheers!
