In my opinion, 1 year old is a hard age for toys. Some of the things he initially received he still plays with. Some he has outgrown or gotten bored with. We have dutifully rotated toys in and out, back and forth, room to room. It was time, we realized, to upgrade.

So we took a gift certificate we received to Toys R Us this evening and had some fun. Outside of Doug believing Roman is old enough for a Lego Star Wars "baby" Star Destroyer (yeah, right... which child is that for?!), we had a good time shopping. Selected a Fisher-Price Little People "At the Zoo" which is cool, the animals make noise and the zookeeper has his own little jeep. We also bought him a Tonka 4x4 truck to be an outdoor toy. Since we decided no sandbox until next year, he had to have more than one toy to play with outdoors.

Anyway, 1 year old is tough, as I said, because he's not truly "imagining" things yet through play (or at least, not verbalizing it) but many other things are almost below him. But as my mom said, he will grow into the toys. Better to buy them "ahead" than to buy them too babyish. So we'll be starting a new list for ourselves and anyone else who might be interested in shopping early for Xmas (hint, hint!).

Roman also got another hair trim around the ears courtesy of Mama today. Not such a good one this time. I think it looks funny, too "straight across." I never went to school for that!
