Working on: packing for camping
---------------------------------

I find it odd that the 1812 Overture was written by a Russian to celebrate the defeat of France & Napoleon, and yet it is played during America's Independence celebrations.

I think it's cool that fireworks are getting to be weirder and weirder shapes. While watching the Boston Pops this evening, they had smiley-face fireworks, squares, and a strange hourglass-shaped thing, amongst others.

I think Michigan's law regarding fireworks is a little weird. If it leaves the ground, it's illegal. So that leaves only fountains, sparklers, and smoke bombs, really. And that would mean bottle rockets are illegal, yet I can buy them at practically any grocery store. And what about those things you throw on the ground and they pop? If you throw them hard enough, they leave the ground again. Hmm.

A quote from Erma Bombeck to send you all off:
"You have to love a nation that celebrates its independence every July 4, not with a parade of guns, tanks, and soldiers... but with family picnics where kids throw Frisbees, the potato salad gets iffy, and the flies die from happiness. You may think you have overeaten, but it is patriotism."
