Working on: Quickly catching up on small paperwork so I can play with Roman all afternoon after nap.
---------------------------------

Roman is really showing an affinity for music. He sings to himself at all times of the day - he woke us up this morning to a great rendition of "Twinkle Stars," as he calls it. He got almost all the words this time! He is becoming attracted to pianos, both in my parents' and in-laws' house. He prefers toys that play songs. He is constantly requesting certain songs in the car.

My favorite - he wants a song about everything. Whether there is one or not. It has truly stretched our musical knowledge - "Mama, sing blueberry song." Out from brain comes "Blueberry Hill" by Fats Domino. "Daddy, sing George song." Daddy falls back on that late '70s TV classic, "George of the Jungle" theme song.

Then there are those times when we can't think of anything. We are expected to make one up! Today he caught me on one as we were getting ready for nap - "Mama, sing donut song." I began a great song about Dunkin' Donuts, and ended with naming off all the different kinds. I think he knows we're making it up. He asked me after the donut song to sing the "kitty cat" song. I crooned "kitty cat, kitty cat" and Roman grinned and said "meow meow! meow meow!" I'm suspecting he wants to start making up songs of his own now.

We had a great time visiting Grandma and Papa Van Eeuwen on Sunday. We trekked out to Grand Haven, their annual Labor Day weekend camping site. They camp with friends who have kids our age and older, who had kids ranging between 10 weeks and 17 years. There were 2 other 2-year-olds & a 4-year-old, so Roman had playmates. We went swimming in the late afternoon and Roman made a new little friend called Madison. She was very friendly, to the exasperation of her own parents!

Roman threw himself into the pool with wild abandon - literally threw himself. He probably launched off the side into our arms a good 20 times. Boy, this is a great age.
