After dinner tonight Roman had a new request. "Mama, come play in my room!" I agreed and we went in. A few toys, but he really wants to play on his bed. He rolled around, I tickled, we just messed around a few minutes. Then he told me I was in "bedroom time." He shook his finger, told me to sit on the stool, and said he'd be back "couple minutes." He closed the door. Then he opened the door and got down on his knees - exactly what we do to speak with him.

He mumbled a little, and then said "you eat dinner." This was a reflection of his own timeout at dinner this evening, when he played with his food to the point that he made a huge mess, refused to follow directions, and then talked back to Daddy. Roman then told me to "say sorry." After I did, I asked for a hug and got one. Then he informed me it was bedtime.

He helped me into his little bed, covered me. Then he put Blue Blanket and Oink in bed with me, got a book, and half-read it to me. I asked for a song and he sang our old favorite, "The Pencil Song." This was made up by Daddy when Roman was being goofy. Then he pretended to turn the light off, said goodnight, and closed the door halfway. Then, he decided to get into bed with me and curled up.

This is the longest role-playing he has done yet! And he's more and more smart and adorable every day. Even another worker at daycare told me today that he's obviously smarter than most kids his age. He catches on quick and understands concepts quickly. I think we've got quite a challenge on our hands to remember that he's emotionally still a 2 year old!
