By education and experience - Accountant with a specialty in taxation. Formerly a CPA (license has lapsed). Masters degree in law of taxation from University of Denver. Now retired. Part time work during baseball season as receptionist & switchboard operator for the Colorado Rockies. This gig feeds my soul in ways I have trouble articulating. One daughter, and four grandchildren. I share the house with two cats; a big goof of a cat called Grinch (named as a joke for his easy going "whatever" disposition); and Lady, a shelter adoptee with a regal bearing and sweet little soprano voice. I would be very bereft if it ever becomes necessary to keep house without a cat.

Oh, bother!

My dad is 92, and increasingly frail. No particular illness especially, just the inevitable outcome of a great many relatively sedentary years. I saw him about 6 weeks ago and was startled at his decline since my last visit in April of this year. (He's in Iowa, I'm in Colorado)

We got a phone call today that he has had a bad fall, and the medical clinic staff senior citizen complex where he has his apartment called an ambulance and sent him to the hospital. Right now I don't know very much more than that, my sister who lives nearby was visiting her daughter and is en route to the hospital, probably about two hours driving time. She'll call me when she has more to report.

We've been both expecting and dreading some "event" of this type. I have had three people special in my life come to the end of their days in the style we all hope for - minimum of illness, confusion and pain - a quick final downturn and then the end. I was hoping for that sort of thing for my father. It's probably too soon to know for sure, but it looks like this is one wish that won't be granted as asked.

I'll keep you all informed, if I go silent for awhile, I'm probably out of town.

Keep me in your thoughts and prayers. Thanks.
