By education and experience - Accountant with a specialty in taxation. Formerly a CPA (license has lapsed). Masters degree in law of taxation from University of Denver. Now retired. Part time work during baseball season as receptionist & switchboard operator for the Colorado Rockies. This gig feeds my soul in ways I have trouble articulating. One daughter, and four grandchildren. I share the house with two cats; a big goof of a cat called Grinch (named as a joke for his easy going "whatever" disposition); and Lady, a shelter adoptee with a regal bearing and sweet little soprano voice. I would be very bereft if it ever becomes necessary to keep house without a cat.

Game One, National League Conference Series

Rockies 5
Diamondbacks 1

Jeff Francis gets his second post season win, after 6 2/3 innings on the mound, his usual calm demeanor

No big flashy at bats for the Rockies, 5 runs patched together with singles and walks.

Last batter for the Diamondbacks in the bottom of the ninth drew the last out by oversliding second base, and being vulnerable to Matsui's tag.

Seventh inning was marred when umpires called offensive interference, two D backs out on the play, and the runner who had advanced to third called back to second. Fans began to pelt the field with water bottles and other assorted trash. Colorado manager Clint Hurdle called the Rockies back to the dugout while the game day staff identified the offending fans, had them ejected and arrested. According to the TV announcers, others sitting near the persons hurling trash onto the field assisted the ushers in identifying them. Not a pleasant evening to work as an usher. I've done that once or twice at Coors Field in my first year there, and I don't envy them on a night like tonight.

Ushers earn a little less, because they can watch the game most of the time. But they put up with quite a bit more.

But it was a good evening for Rockies fans!

This gives us home field advantage for the rest of the series, because in a best of seven situation, we play three at home, and we need three more victories to advance. But over and over again, in interviews with the press, the team cautions that it's one game at a time. So that's the way I'm approaching this.

18 wins out of the last 19 games. That's a 94.7% winning streak.

It's a black and purple world!
