Woodstock's Blog
Books and other stuff I feel like discussing

By education and experience - Accountant with a specialty in taxation. Formerly a CPA (license has lapsed). Masters degree in law of taxation from University of Denver. Now retired. Part time work during baseball season as receptionist & switchboard operator for the Colorado Rockies. This gig feeds my soul in ways I have trouble articulating. One daughter, and four grandchildren. I share the house with two cats; a big goof of a cat called Grinch (named as a joke for his easy going "whatever" disposition); and Lady, a shelter adoptee with a regal bearing and sweet little soprano voice. I would be very bereft if it ever becomes necessary to keep house without a cat.

Coors Field Nugget Three - Training

We were down at the stadium late one afternoon last week, for returning employee training. Pretty much same old, same old - a few new names on the roster of supervisory game day personnel, and a few changes in the stadium itself, a review of the new "super-suite" and its amenities, and another corporation has signed on with naming rights - the club level is now "The Wells Fargo Club at Coors Field." Those who work there (and that includes Mr Woodstock) will have special hats. Other than the name and the hats, most everything on club level will be the same.

The wardrobe department is running behind - not all the clothing items are in yet. But the shirts are the same as last year, so if Mr Woodstock doesn't have this year's shirt on opening day, he'll make do with last year's in fine style. I was able to get my shirt with no waiting.

We'll go down twice more before April 4 - I go for telephoned bomb threat training on the 25th, and on the 29th we both go for a review of credentials issued to stadium staff and visitors.

Meanwhile, spring training continues. All the core team members from 2007 have been resigned to at least one year commitments, and there's still an open question on the first string second baseman. I think there are five contenders, Baker, Nix, Quintilla, Barmes, and Stewart. I'd kind of like to see Baker get a regular gig at Coors Field, but won't be disappointed to see one of the other four get the season opening nod.

Less than three weeks - will my anticipation become unbearable? Stay tuned.
