By education and experience - Accountant with a specialty in taxation. Formerly a CPA (license has lapsed). Masters degree in law of taxation from University of Denver. Now retired. Part time work during baseball season as receptionist & switchboard operator for the Colorado Rockies. This gig feeds my soul in ways I have trouble articulating. One daughter, and four grandchildren. I share the house with two cats; a big goof of a cat called Grinch (named as a joke for his easy going "whatever" disposition); and Lady, a shelter adoptee with a regal bearing and sweet little soprano voice. I would be very bereft if it ever becomes necessary to keep house without a cat.

About the Rockies

I realize I didn't say anything when the season ended. We had a flurry of mathematical possibility that we would be in post season play. From a season staff person's point of view, this means getting blank calendars distributed to us, with potential home game days indicated in bold, and the instructions to fill them out and return them post haste.

This year, this process occurred when San Francisco was moving toward locking up the division, and the Rockies were at the same time drifting out of contention.

"What are we doing this for?" was a commonly heard remark. We also endured an irritating insistence that no matter what was happening on the field, we should complete the calendars, already. Just do it.

Of course, the season concluded with a whimper, instead of the bang we were all hoping for. Ubaldo Jimenez finished with 19 wins. (He recently was third in voting for the NL Cy Young award.) We had all been hoping for 20. The team was just four games over 500, hardly a stellar effort.

In other post season news, both outfielder Carlos Gonzales and shortstop Troy Tulowitzki received Gold Glove and Silver Slugger awards. In previous years, the Gold Glove awarded to Larry Walker was on disply in the lobby. I'm sure the statuette was sent on to him when he left the team for the Cardinals. But it would be neat if we could have the Gloves for Cargo or Tulo on display, even for a few weeks.

MVP for both leagues will be announced soon. I'm anxious to see who is rewarded.

And as a die hard National League fan, I was very happy that the Giants won the Series, and very impressed with Tim Lincecum's appearances.

Training for game day staff is the last week of March. Sigh.
