Books and other stuff I feel like discussing

By education and experience - Accountant with a specialty in taxation. Formerly a CPA (license has lapsed). Masters degree in law of taxation from University of Denver. Now retired. Part time work during baseball season as receptionist & switchboard operator for the Colorado Rockies. This gig feeds my soul in ways I have trouble articulating. One daughter, and four grandchildren. I share the house with two cats; a big goof of a cat called Grinch (named as a joke for his easy going "whatever" disposition); and Lady, a shelter adoptee with a regal bearing and sweet little soprano voice. I would be very bereft if it ever becomes necessary to keep house without a cat.

#17 Retired

On Sunday, August 17th, the Rockies had an official pregame ceremony retiring Todd Helton's uniform number - 17. Under the terms of my use of social media with respect to the Rockies, I can no longer link to the video, but if you would like to see the ceremony, you can go to Rockies.com, click on the "Rockiesvision" link, and then click on the "Todd Helton" tag. There are several clips to watch.

The right field wall near the bullpens now has three round placques - #42, Jackie Robinson's number; KSM, in initials of Rockies president Kelli McGregor who died quite suddenly a few years ago; and now #17.

Our 2014 Coors Field staff pins are a replica of the placque in right field - I'll be proud to wear it.

Todd was with the Rockies organization for his entire career - a real rarity in this day and age. He was called up from the AAA team in Colorado Springs during the 1998 season. I remember the hue and cry at the time - Andres Gallaraga played first base and was very popular with the fans. Many were not at all sure they wanted a newcomer at first. Well, the decision turned out well for everyone.

I missed the ceremony - I was out of town for a family wedding. So I had to be content with watching the video clips.
