Wrapping Up About The Camp

Maybe I shouldn't have started this blog now, not with everything that's been going on.

Due to the late ending of Science Summer Camp Day 3, I overslept on Day 4. My roommate actually got showered, dressed and left before I did, something that’s happened so rare as only the second time in the last two months.

I got to school at 11am; the closing ceremonies were supposed to start at 9am. I checked at the auditorium where we held the opening ceremonies. It was closed. I went to the department, deposited my bag, and then I went up to the auditorium where we held the session yesterday. It was also locked.

It wasn’t until some time later that I checked the LCD projector where it was supposed to be in the department, and the computer that we used for the demo yesterday. Both were already in place, which meant someone had brought everything down sometime earlier that day.

I was going to go back to the department when I saw one of the student participants go down the stairs from the Biology floor and use the water fountain. I followed him up. One of the Biology coordinators came out of one of the rooms and saw me, and held the door for me.
The students were all in one of the laboratories trying out the yogurt they had started making two days ago. The Biology Department chair, who was also overall head of the whole camp, was handing out to the students their certificates of participation.

The Chemistry department coordinator was also there, and basically we just stood on the platform while the students continued their picture taking from the night before, and signing each other’s souvenir program.

The souvenir program was made by the Biology Department, featuring group pictures taken during the first day, and distributed on the second day. The Chemistry department coordinator and I complained to each other that they didn’t make it for the whole College of Science, but I guess it was solely from their budget. But it did carry the spirit of bonding from the other camps, where the students wrote their dedications and contact numbers in sheets of paper for the others.

Maybe next time we can have a participants’ directory printed. We certainly already discussed some evaluations, including some from the students based on the forms they filled out earlier. For one, some requested a change of venue (bigger?) for the stargazing. They actually thought they’d all be lying down looking at the stars.

We’ll probably have an evaluation session one of these days.
