Like An Actor Saying the Same Old Lines Again

Maybe I shouldn't have started this blog now, not with everything that's been going on.

Technically the second day of classes for me, and first real lecture because of the discussion of class policies last Monday.

When I went to my 920am class, I passed by the computer lab, which is the room right beside it, and I saw one of my co-teachers in there. So at the end of my class I went there, only to find him introducing himself to a new set of students who he was only meeting then (their first class for the week, last Wednesday, was, of course, cancelled). So he has two classes in a row in the computer lab on Fridays. On Wednesdays, I have my 9:20 class in the next room, and my 1030 class in there.

I had a couple of students in two of my classes who just adjusted, and therefore were only showing up in class today. I told them to just get the syllabus in the department, and when said they can get the assignments from their classmates, they protested they weren’t part of the block.

So what? One of the things they’re supposed to learn in school is interaction with different groups, not isolationism.

Today also the guy who was supposed to fill up his Mensa application form in reservation for the June 21 testing also showed up. Our secretary/reliever said he was at the gate when I finished my 230-330pm class. He called again, and I went down to meet him and give him the application form to fill out. I recognized him immediately because he was the only person with an aluminum cane.

The reason he’s filling out the information sheet in person is because he said he doesn’t have a computer at home for me to send it to him by e-mail. Anyway, I also gave him an envelope addressed to the department so that he could put the form in there when he finished it and give it to the guard, who will use the internal mail to send it to our office.

He said he may not make it to the June 21 testing, so he’ll probably take the test in July. He didn’t have to fill out the form if he wasn’t going to make it on June 21, because he could fill it out when he actually did take the test, but I gave him the form to fill out anyway just in case the situation changed and he could make it to the 21st. Otherwise, his trip today would have been wasted.
