Hating It That I Know What's Going to Happen

Maybe I shouldn't have started this blog now, not with everything that's been going on.

First day of classes for the second term, and just like last term, it’s my lightest day with only two sections to meet. One was at 1030am and the other one was at 230pm, but astronomy again.

The first one was just on the floor below the department, so I was taking it easy. I gave them the policies on being late during exams (which I’ll repeat when the first test comes around) and I also told them about the possibility of the stargazing sessions being postponed because of the cloudy or rainy sky. I also gave them the tentative date for the field trip as being either second week of October or November, not any date in between because that’s when the other schools have their term break and the theme park will be crowded just like last year.

This time I passed around a sheet for their attendance instead of asking them to pass around half-palm sized pieces of paper. I also gave them the misconception survey.

I had the distinct impression that I overlooked something in the middle of my announcements, and I was right, I was also supposed to prepare them for the permanent groupings, which will be implemented around the second or third week, earlier than last term, with all their requirements to be placed in a plastic envelope.

I was able to remember that for my second class, to which I was late. I took a nap after lunch, and somehow I slept through my alarm at 215pm. If it wasn’t for my co-teacher muttering to herself while she used the computer in that little cranny of the faculty room, I wouldn’t have woken up.

I had to cut up the answer sheets for the survey, get more syllabi to distribute, brush my teeth and plaster down my hair (which, of course, had a dent on the side where I slept). I got to the room fifteen minutes after the official time.

Luckily they waited for me. This was in the same room as my 230pm class last term, so it was a little sentimental to see all the seats packed instead of our intimate little bunch of 30 students just a few weeks ago.

And I did see my old students in the next room, although I don’t know if they saw me because their new teacher held their attention. I’ll see them around again within the next few days.

I still don’t have the time to talk about what I promised last Monday, and it doesn’t look like I’ll be able to anytime soon.

Early this evening one of my co-teachers, who is also one of the panelists of my thesis advisee, sent me an instant message while I working at one of the computers in the department. It seems my advisee’s mother had emailed all three of them.

The address of the chairman was wrong though, so he’ll be able to read it tomorrow. At least I’ll be able to say I was in the department Saturday, Monday and Tuesday waiting for him, and that I left a note on Friday.

I’ll give the details tomorrow.
