Not Enough Time To Do Everything

Maybe I shouldn't have started this blog now, not with everything that's been going on.

In my 1030am class, we tackled the last two questions on the zodiac constellation calendar. Again I told them how this method of answering those questions, using the blank columns on the paper instead of sliding them, will allow them to gain partial points even if their final answer is wrong.

And this time, just to be absolutely clear, before introducing the supposedly most "complicated questions" on the calendar (because they require three columns to answer), I gave them concrete examples of when the same constellations are visible at two different months and two different times.

Afterwards, we had a departmental meeting at 12pm followed by a workshop that was scheduled until 430pm. Unfortunately, I could not attend because it was the only time I had to go to the Makati sales office and buy the tickets for our students' field trip on Saturday. I was hoping to be back by 130pm to catch the tail end of the meeting before I had to meet my 230pm class.

Instead I barely enough time to get to class. So I just printed out more of the instructions for the Phases of the Moon activity and gave it to the class. This time I even showed them how the Moon and the Sun would look like from a hemisphere visible to an observer on the surface of the Earth, so that they would have a better idea of when the rising, peak and setting of those two celestial bodies occur.

There was some confusion though on where the moon was visible from the corner of the eye, especially since some of them weren't following the instructions (or it wasn't clear enough) about looking straight ahead while "rotating".

Some even didn't understand about "setting one side of the room as the position of the Sun" as they still designated one of their classmates to play the Sun while someone else played the Earth.

One group also had the moon revolving around waist level of the guy who was the Earth. Like that'll always be at the corner of your eye, even looking downwards.

The next instruction set has to be a full page with illustrations instead of being just text on half a piece of paper.

Well, that's all I have time for today. I'll relay the rest tomorrow.
