Short and Long Term Plans

Maybe I shouldn't have started this blog now, not with everything that's been going on.

Tuesday we had another meeting about the Open Campus on Saturday. The division of the participants into the Green and White teams, as well as the registration for the 10 different sports of the day, including the Paintball sessions, which will run all day, made the organizers decide that they should be the ones to man the registration booth, to be able to explain to the participants about the orders of the day.

That means that the students who are part of my committee will be relegated to ushers and usherettes, especially with the college faculty secretary, the EVP and dean’s secretary and the attendance checker, being part of the registration table also.

I also volunteered to make the “day planner” to let the visitors know the sessions they could be involved in and at what time.

I belatedly noticed that the tour was not in the latest version of their schedule though. Maybe it’s part of the orientation sessions already, which is set to run from one and a half to two hours.

On Tuesday afternoon I also accompanied one of the students from the Entrepreneur’s Guild who had to return the t-shirts that were printed out supposedly for Saturday. The printing did not come out right, maybe because the owner couldn’t care less anymore, despite having the sample come out looking so good.

Thankfully despite some “hysterics” over the phone (at least that’s what the student said) and foisting us off to his mother, the money was completely refunded, and a new company was found that took on the somewhat intricate design (the winner of a much participated contest) that a lot of other firms turned down, and they promised to deliver by the morning of the event.

I don’t know about the sticker, which is last time I heard it’s yet to be commissioned, but the plans for a cap has been scrapped. The visors (black, unfortunately, so I won’t be buying it) were doubled in order (in anticipation of the heat of the day and the number of outdoor activities, despite the cool winds). And the mugs are in place for selling as well.

This will be the first time I will be buying a school mug despite having an assorted and sentimental collection. It might not be the last either, since this one has “2003-04” printed on it.

Was having lunch with David the other day when the EVP came up and asked him about this other-country grant they had talked about before. David said he couldn’t take it because he’s not a natural born Filipino, which has been a big deal in the news recently for other people in other endeavors.

The EVP then turned to me and asked if I was interested. It happens to be the Panasonic program in Japan, which two of my former co-teachers have already taken in the last two years.

Of course I said yes.

It means though, that just like my former co-teachers, I will have to learn the language. In the long run though, it (and the opportunity to research abroad itself) has so many benefits despite the additional burden within the next few months.
