Aftermath of the Open Campus and College Fun Day

Maybe I shouldn't have started this blog now, not with everything that's been going on.

Well, it's finished. Too much to process all at once, but there are initial impressions that I can write here for now.

As expected, even though the registration time was at 7:45am, there were parents and students who showed up way before that, probably expecting the traffic to the school to be worse that it actually was.

The guards, who - it seems - were not informed that they should tell the guests to go, just let the guests into the campus. So by the time me and my cousin arrived at 730am, there were already guests in various parts of the campus.

This is also before the signage committee arrived to put up their signs all over the place as to where the guests should go.

There were also some parents who, upon arriving, asked the people they saw around the campus the way to the prospective freshman orientation at the auditorium already, even before they registered.

Instead of having one orientation in the morning for the accepted applicants and another for the prospective freshmen, everyone who was there in the morning went to the morning orientation. Of course there was no way we could stop people, even if their schedule said their orientation was in the afternoon, from following the bulk of the people going to the auditorium.

So the games that were supposed to be simultaneous with the morning orientation (kickball and volleyball) had no participants.

Also, most of the visitors left after the orientation, which was the main thing they came for anyway, although there were those who attended the afternoon orientation and those who stayed for the afternoon games (badminton and table tennis). Paintball had been going on (with games every thirty minutes) since the morning and was still going strong in the afternoon.

The poster-making workshop and the web design demonstration also extended into the lunch break, and they were all moved to the lobby instead of having separate classrooms. The efforts from the poster making (Theme: My Idea of Fun in College) were put up outside the cafeteria.

The robotics demostration (where my cousin worked after ushering during the first part of the morning), which has started preparations since 10am (although one student was already there before we arrived), pushed through as scheduled at 1pm and also ended an hour later than planned at 330pm.

My tour in the afternoon was moved back an hour to accomodate the music jamming session that extended from the lunch break.

The bike race started before we could get back from the tour.

The day ended with the distribution of the souvenirs to the students: ID plastics with the ID pictures of their batchmates on one side and their teachers on the other side.

The EVP was thrilled at the students' favorable reaction to the souvenirs, incredulously asking them to verify that word of the plan didn't leak out.

That was the whole awarding ceremonies. The food prizes were just distributed to all the students still there, instead of to winners of each event, which I believe didn't get tallied anyway.

Besides, other than everyone really having fun, I think we were all more relieved that it was finally over.
