The Courtesy of Allowing Someone to Save Face

Maybe I shouldn't have started this blog now, not with everything that's been going on.

I was discussing the field trip for my mechanics class.

Miss Marge the Guidance Counselor will probably put a stop to this if she finds out that just like with our visit to the park last November, another couple was “formed” during last week’s venture - one of the pro people during the PDA debate at that!

That was it though. No injuries, no hospitalization like the same time last year, so we’re probably pushing through for at least another term.

One more thing I forgot to mention about the elections. Frank voted towards the afternoon. I thought he was going to boycott. There’s also a possibility he abstained from voting anyone to the presidency, but I didn’t check the ballots with their control numbers.

He wouldn’t shut up about our old issue though. He chided me for not letting him run, as if our holding on to the rules we have already set isn’t such a big deal. It was also like he didn’t read or regard seriously the reasons I had outlined in my response letter, with the Dean’s notification signature at that!

This guy is worse than Joseph in the sense that he’s all ambition but he wants what he wants in his own terms and not with any idea of respecting the people he has to deal with in getting to his goals.

And speaking of Joseph, the next school day after the elections, I had to hunt down the members of the Commission of Elections (two of them in the cafeteria, two in their classes, and one in the ladies’ restroom!) to sign our official announcement about the results of the counting.

With all the signatures, I gave it to the student head, Dennis, in the cafeteria, where I could see that Joseph was hanging out. I resisted the temptation of showing him the post before it was put up. I didn’t want him to think I was gloating.

Joseph and another student Luis were supposed to take their make up exam in mechanics lecture that lunchtime. Neither of them showed up.

I found out from my co-teacher Celia later that Joseph had gone home sick and didn’t attend her class either that day, or report on his work for their Business class regarding the logistics part of putting up a play (souvenir programs, sponsors etc.).

A day later, I was told by one of his friends that it was food poisoning – from what, the cafeteria offerings? Why wasn’t it reported that anyone else was affected? Of course, rumors abounded that he just felt so bad about losing.

The bigger their egos, the worse it deflates and all that.

For the first meeting of my Advanced Mathematics class for Week 8 of Trimester 3, School Year 2004-2005 (was supposed to be the second meeting but I hung around the poll room – and so did all eight of my students), I finished the discussion on the basic types of signals and gave them preliminary examples of plotting a deterministic signal.

I’ll have to dog ear the page of this story at this point. The teacher for the next class is already outside in the corridor. I’ll continue next time. For now, class dismissed.
