An Event Marring An Otherwise Pristine New Term

Student "edition" found at {csi dot journalspace dot com}.

Maybe I shouldn't have started this blog now, not with everything that's been going on.

With the start of the new term I thought that I would not have any Deiv narratives until academic advising rolled around again on the tenth week of classes. I was wrong.

On the first day of classes he approached me, and asked me for the form he had to have accomplished so that he could enroll in certain sections even though they were already full.

Apparently, even though he is already an irregular student, he still insists on following his flowchart and regular block offerings, even in the minor subjects. When he was closed out of those immediately after course card distribution last term, I told him one of his options was to ask the teachers (after they have been assigned) if they would still let him join their classes.

The other option of course is to look for other subjects that his flowchart and pre requisites would allow him to take. But I guess for him the easiest is the first option, although if the teachers declined, he would have to resort to Plan B anyway.

Besides, I don’t know how his parents allowed him to wait until after the term has started before he could pay the tuition – when there is already a surcharge for what is considered as late enrollment then. Or did he use the adding and dropping period route?

Anyway, I told him there was no form. He had to write the letter himself or ask the teacher to write the letter and just present the signature of approval to the registrar’s office to be allowed.

Last I heard, he was given the green light by one teacher, but so far he has not returned for any additional advising, so maybe everything is alright in his fenced off little world.

Here’s to roughly ten Deiv free weeks ahead.

Possible changes in my schedule are that I may not be teaching the petitioned and granted mechanics lecture after all, and even though the two labs are assigned to me, one of them might be dissolved after all.

What would replace mechanics lecture? Differential calculus. Now this would be a new challenge.

Besides that, there is Basic Interfacing Lecture and Lab for the engineering juniors, and the new and revitalized Graphics Two, which is now manual drawing, and therefore also considered as new preparation for me. That makes the total four previously untaught subjects. I’m thrilled.

Session 755 is also previously untaught. Class dismissed.
