Changing Parts of The Robot Class

Student "edition" found at {csi dot journalspace dot com}.

Maybe I shouldn't have started this blog now, not with everything that's been going on.

I would like to clarify from yesterday that it was not until I met the second section of my Introduction to Robotics class that I saw some Computer Science freshmen I recognized from the Mathematical Methods One class they had with me during the first term.

There were some students I did not recognize in both classes, but I would not know until I study the course cards they filled out and passed or the final class list whether these are also engineering majors who were not in my Graphics Two: Manual Drafting class last term, or if these are Computer Science majors who were not in my MM1 class two terms ago.

I followed the rule of my co-teacher who taught the subject last year, treating the class as a laboratory (they are all literally hands-on anyway) and making the passing into seventy percent.

This is the first time, actually that I have done so, because I mistakenly asked the students in GRAF2MD last term if the passing rate in their Graphics One was sixty five percent, and they told me it was sixty.

I also made the requirements four projects instead of three from last year, hopefully to give them less time dawdling in the lab and more time actually experimenting or working.

At least two of the projects are not head-to-head robot competition, like the last two from last year were, and hopefully besides showcasing them during the Innovation Week, we can have actual public demonstrations of their “battles” where maybe even the Integrated School students can watch and aspire to join.

The same is true with uploading their projects to the manufacturer’s website afterwards, which was something they should have done last year.

Besides the written individual finals, which I am not taking out, I also told them that there would be a quiz when they have finished the software training.

Lastly, I am also planning to show them the videos from the competition last year, before the projects start, so that they could learn from the previous batch’s mistakes and see some of their ingenious ideas.

Session 927 shut down. Class dismissed.
