New Grading System Not In Favor of the Students Or the Parents

Maybe I shouldn't have started this blog now, not with everything that's been going on.

I did a bit more research on the chances of a student to pass or fail a course based on the sixty forty split of percentages from the lecture and lab classes.

If a students gets a minimum grade of sixty percent in the lab, there is still an eighty percent chance of him or her failing and having to retake both subjects, and only a twenty percent chance of passing both, and only if the minimum rating for the lecture is around thirty four percent.

On the other side of the equation, even if the student gets a minimum of sixty percent in the lecture grade, there is still a fifty-fifty chance that he will fail based on whatever the grade is in the lab.

Of course, I’m not including those grades where the student already passes both subjects because his grade is greater than sixty percent in both, and those chances that he fails both because his grades are less than sixty percent in both.

So totaling everything, if a student in the old system would have been sure to pass one subject, the probability in the new system that he will have to repeat both is sixty five percent, while the percentage that he will pass is only thirty five percent.

I don’t know how kindly the parents would like having to pay for two subjects again when in the old rules the student would only have to repeat one.

Besides, having to repeat six units plays havoc on an irregular student’s schedule more than three units will.

There’s also the better period of adjustment if the new policy had been introduced at the start of the upcoming school year to give all of the students enough time to digest and adjust to the principle instead of on the third term.

And I believe a change in ruling that major deserved a big announcement, maybe gathering all of the students in one place or having a debate with the student council, so that everyone would be informed instead of only learning about it when they went in to get their course card.

Session 1097 failed both lecture and lab classes, and didn’t stand a chance. Class dismissed.
