Tolerance Thinner The More Time This Student's Around

Student "edition" found at {csi dot journalspace dot com}.

Maybe I shouldn't have started this blog now, not with everything that's been going on.

I was talking about my Engineering Materials Science class for the fifth week of the first term. Let's get all Deiv out of the way first.

He was one of the first to be called for recitation, and had to be corrected several times when he kept getting the wrong answer to the problem, since (a) he didn't move the tail of the vector to the origin, as was demonstrated several times in the procedure, (b) when he did move the tail of the vector, he kept the head at the same point, resulting in a vector that was no longer equivalently parellel to the first one, (c) after he had gotten the correct parallel vector, his breakdown of this vector into its cartesian axes components was still wrong, and (d) with all of those correct, he did not convert them to the smallest integer values.

When he was finished with his board work and returned to his seat, and I was already consulting the others about the solution of another student, Deiv was also insistently gaining my attention to tell me the final answer, and thus depriving his classmate of a chance to find out the answer for herself first hand, as I had provided the opportunity to him.

Lastly, even though after the session was over and I had moved to the bulletin board outside the faculty room to talk to various groups about their first project, he arrived only to give me his exercise, but did not even consult about his project.

Does that mean he's not working on it with his classmates, or is he going solo again, and from his own ideas of how to make it?

Another point from the class was that some students would interrupt my lecture right in the middle to ask about when the exam would be.

From this I told the whole class that I could only assume they are eager for the exam since they find the topics easy, so the next time someone asks, the answer will be next meeting, no hesitation.

As expected, not everyone brought filler exercise notebooks as well.

Going back to the project, I suggested they coordinate about one person buying all the paint they need for the corner, face and center atoms, whose colors had been set for consistency.

Session 1177 didn't consult. Class dismissed.
