It's Like I Have One Continuous Class All Week

Student "edition" found at {csi dot journalspace dot com}.

Maybe I shouldn't have started this blog now, not with everything that's been going on.

What I promised last time will have to wait for a while. I don't feel like being down in the dumps this early in the term about things I can do something about.

And I will try to curb this incessantly single-minded student idiosyncrasies.

So as I said, for the Intermediate Robotics lecture class, I talked about serial data communications on the computer, just to give them an overview about how they can make machines receive and transmit signals with the PC.

In the meeting of my Robotics lab class for the first week of the second term, I divided the students into three groups of four or five students each.

Then I gave them their first project, which is to make the stair-climbing robot from the same kits that we used in the introductory course.

This, I told them, is to familiarize themselves again with the concepts involved, so that we don't waste time with lengthy lectures on motors and sensors before being able to make something hands-on.

Unfortunately, I had to stop the class after two hours, because apparently the students had not had lunch yet since they thought I was going to dismiss them early.

Besides, we had another class immediately afterwards, between which we definitely could use breaks from each other before continuing.

By the way, there was one student who was not there during the lecture class who only showed up for the lab. He also got the introductory course credited from another school, so I had him take the training course on the computer while the group mates he had worked on their robot.

I gave them the small “base” that had to be the top of their structure for supporting the egg that should not fall off while going up and down the stairs, and that had to be the highest point on their robot.

Session 1309 had a different course credited. Class dismissed.
