A Hollywood Dark Comedy Moment

Student "edition" found at {csi dot journalspace dot com}.

Maybe I shouldn't have started this blog now, not with everything that's been going on.

I had mentioned the teaching demo that I was part of last week.

It just so happened that that demo occurred during one of my classes in the Robotics lab, which put me in a quandry. It's only a thirty minute demo, so it's not enough for me to postpone the class and schedule a make up. But the demo could not be moved either.

My dilemma was whether to ask the students to continue their experiment while I was gone for thirty minutes, or if I should honor the rule that the students cannot work in the lab without a teacher present.

The most extreme case is that they blow up the lab, and if that happens, and I'm not there dead or mutilated along with them, I'm going to catch so much flak for not knowing what caused the accident that I might as well be better off having been blown up.

So I have to admonish them to "not blow up the lab until I return".

Which, in retrospect, I should have revised to asking them to leave the lab as well.

Because, in one of life's amazing ironies that was first believed only happened in the movies, that was the exact time that the Brother president chose to inspect the robotics lab.

This was despite one of their number already warning them that Brother Ricky was already in the hall and proceeding their way.

He disappeared from view, and they said he wasn't going to enter.

And the students were playing collectible card games in the lab.

And when he did see them, they answered his question truthfully about what class it was they were supposed to be having at that time.

No reprimand yet has reached me (if ever; maybe the Brother already asked and found out their teacher was observing a demo at the time).

Session 1401 something. Class dismissed.
