Pampered in School, Pariah in the Work Force

Student "edition" found at {csi dot journalspace dot com}.

Maybe I shouldn't have started this blog now, not with everything that's been going on.

For the first meeting of my Electromagnetic Theory class for the third term of school year 2006 to 2007, I had to hold it in the table tennis courts because the robotics lab next door was closed; the technician in charge was absent. I also asked the students to coordinate their schedule for the term because we would have to change the days and times of our class if we were not to run out of classrooms.

These students are the engineering sophomore regulars, by the way, who were last in my class two terms ago. I had them bring filler notebooks for their exercises again, and told them they would know about our new schedule before the middle of the first week of classes.

As for my Feedback laboratory class, I received a text message from the secretary at 8am of the first day of the week that I was supposed to start my class right that minute, when the original schedule I got from the previous week said I didn’t have any class on the first day of the week.

She even said she had sent me another text message the week before, and that the new text was just a reminder. It turned out that late last week, the engineering junior irregulars approached the dean about having the schedule of that class changed because it was in conflict with their earlier class, by around thirty minutes. What those who were present didn’t know was that some of the senior irregulars (including my cousin) would have a conflict with another class in the new earlier schedule. So the schedule had to be changed again, by me this time, after I had gathered all the information from those enrolled (and no suggestions this time; they had gotten to egotistical in thinking all of their academics whims could be done).

It was moved back to the original schedule, just adjusted thirty minutes later, which is ironic because later in the day it turns out the student who had a conflict had to drop the subject anyway in favor of another subject in which she is further delayed (being a freshman level course with post requisites), and because the dean would not allow her to overload.

Still more frantic student scheduling antics to be discussed tomorrow.

Session 1469 got used to having their suggestions done by the dean. Class dismissed.
