Textual Snapshots of Different Classrooms in the Week

Student "edition" found at {csi dot journalspace dot com}.

Maybe I shouldn't have started this blog now, not with everything that's been going on.

In my most recent general science requirement mechanics lecture class session, I introduced the new topic of conservation of mechanical energy. I used my old drawing of the hand letting go of the ball again, which in the past has been mistaken for a chicken foot (complete with wristwatch looking anklet).

I also defined kinetic energy as being dependent on velocity of an object regardless of direction in an isolated system with no external forces, to prepare for examples we would have using the same ones from free fall and projectile motion.

And since I have not finished checking their last exam (in the meeting right before the field trip) I only posted on the board the printout of the solutions, which students with portable computers handy could copy the spreadsheet file.

In Electromagnetic theory class, I talked about magnetic fields due to a current and the other way around, and the torque of a loop of wire due to a magnet, which is the principle behind the pointer of the analog voltage and current meters.

And even though a certain student was able to get perfect in two exercises in a row (albeit with reduced total scores than in the previous exercises) and he even went so far as to go into his previous practice of pointing out to the teacher the mistakes of his classmates in the board work, but not volunteering for the board work itself – what does he believe: the teacher thinks more highly of him because of that behavior? - he was not able to submit the latest exercise that required getting three dimensional areas and vectors from three points in three dimensional space given. At least previous actions indicate that he will not submit his exercise notebook a day late – because then it's not an exercise anymore, but would have been an assignment.

In my feedback and control systems lab class, the students continued to work on their projects, which is due one week hence during the celebration of engineering week.

The groups using the robotics kits of the school were having trouble downloading the firmware to a brain box that is connected to an external DC voltage generator, so they will have to provide their own batteries for their work.

The fancy water closet demonstration will now become an automatic fish tank water renewal and replenishment system, with the live fish provided for emphasis.

I'll talk about my other mechanics lab classes and basic electronics lab classes next time.

Session 1567 is really just good at basic substitution or procedure math problems, but not analysis. Class dismissed.
