Driving Away People Who Can't Decide Till the Last Minute

Student "edition" found at {csi dot journalspace dot com}.

Maybe I shouldn't have started this blog now, not with everything that's been going on.

Here's another topic that I'm not sure if I'm going to put in the student version.

First of all, a certain section of communication arts students held their class play in the past two days, and they had the lack of their own foresight to sell tickets at fifty pesos if bought before the event, and at a hundred pesos if they buy at the box office. Now what does that show about the attitude of the organizers and their lack of knowledge of the attitude of their fellow college students?

They expect people to plan ahead to watch their play, and penalize those who decide to show up at the last minute by paying twice as much, maybe because of a lack of anything better to do.

So if they sold fifty tickets by promotion, and have three hundred fifty empty seats during their two performances, did they increase or decrease the chances of people showing up on the second night, hoping optimistically (it is possible to hope pessimistically right?) that word of mouth is good from the first night?

After all, would they themselves buy into such a forced tactic, when most of the time they intone that they don't have enough time to do the works their teachers demand them because of lack of effective scheduling? Or maybe it's something else.

They could be hoping that the students would just buy tickets early since it's cheaper, and that if they eventually end up not showing up, they are only down by fifty pesos.

What the organizers might think is a better consequence for them is that they could sell the seat space again at twice the price if the students don't show up. But what happens if at worst the pre-sold tickets do show up late and peopl numbering twice the total number of available seats crowd the theater?

Or are they thinking negatively that they can't have a crowded house?

Maybe, which is easier to assume, they didn't look at all the pros and cons at all.

Session 1571 doesn't know if they're raising more money or turning buyers off. Class dismissed.
