Adjustments Made for the Preceding and Upcoming Terms

Student "edition" found at {csi dot journalspace dot com}.

Maybe I shouldn't have started this blog now, not with everything that's been going on.

There are certain changes made to the list of courses that will be offered for the new term.

First, Differential Equations was taken out, and replaced by Advanced Calculus, which, until it becomes clear, is only for the Computer Engineering students.

Although Differential Equations is required for the engineering students to be able to take up Advanced Mathematics, that one is offered for the third term, so that the students can still take up Differential Equations on the second term.

Then, they would still be considered regular students – for those of them who worry about that.

There are also the cases of some students who want to take up their regular subjects (with their batch mates) at the expense of leaving behind some of the subjects from their first year that they still have not passed, and which would delay them further.

I would have allowed the students to take both, but since the two schedules were in conflict, I – as academic adviser – had put my foot down. They could have gone over my head to the associate dean for reverse decision, but they didn't.

It happened again to the same student today – just an hour or so ago. He had the conflict of two subjects, both considered major. One of them is with his batch mates, but is a floating subject. The other is with the students that are one year lower than him, but has two post-requisites, the same line as I was talking about with a certain student yesterday – the mechanics series.

In other news, I also have two foreign students who are just going to have their finals in general science requirement mechanics lecture class today. They said they didn't know about the finals (again because it was the proctor's name that was in the list posted, but not mine) and they gave a letter as to the reason for their not being there on the third exam, which is renewing their student's visa at the department of immigration during that day.

I will, instead of giving them two exams, give them just one, and double the points of that one – which is actually the short way of saying it will be credited to two exams, one of which has a higher count than the other – since it is finals.

Now, I would not have given them these exams if there was no chance that they would eventually pass. But it is still their own responsibility to compute for their own pre-final grade, and how much they need in the finals to get at least a one point zero.

Session 1605 would rather study with friends first than graduate early. Class dismissed.
