The Mistaken Impression of Students That Future Bosses are like Waiters

Student "edition" found at {csi dot journalspace dot com}.

Maybe I shouldn't have started this blog now, not with everything that's been going on.

Earlier this week during the midterm exam of my Computer Architecture special class (the questions of which was taken from the book, and was open book and notes) two of the fourth year engineering irregulars went to my class with one of the previous projects that are in the supply room, which they wanted to disassemble and use for their project in another class.

This is something that I didn't want to do because it means not having any projects left for our exhibition. Then they backtracked and said they won't disassemble it, but would just add to something in the gears they needed for their paper feeder.

Which is what they were doing during my Robotics lab class, so it really wasn't their project in my subject they were making.

Anyway, yesterday I saw their project in progress, and it turns out they used the the gears from the introductory robotics kit.

This is what I also don't want them to do, because that means when the introductory class rolls around again, I will have to take their project apart to use the gears, losing another item in our exhibit.

Why do they have to be so lazy to buy parts outside as to want to use reusable parts for their projects, when they don't even have documentation submitted on how to reassemble them?

It's really all blamable back to slacker co-teacher, who, when I talked to him about the use of the kit gears, said that the students are only using it as a mock-up, and that they are actually waiting for the new gears that will be bought by the director.

So that if their gears don't arrive in time for the end of the term, they can blame the director? When slacker co-teacher has trained them anyway to just buy the parts they need then have it reimbursed? Maybe it's because waiting is the path of least resistance (and least work on their part).

I pity the companies that will hire these graduates in the future and see that they are worthless, and I pity the school's reputation getting shot because of them at that point.

Session 1881 wants all projects delivered to their laps. Class dismissed.
