Academic: Boss Putting His Foot Down

Student "edition" found at {csi dot journalspace dot com}.

Maybe I shouldn't have started this blog now, not with everything that's been going on.

For today I'd like to share an e-mail from the director of the school of engineering, sent at the start of the term. I just now realized that all the items listed here are against something that slacker co-teacher has done or not done in the past.

"1. Please do not change your class schedules without prior written authorization.

2. Any and all requests should be coursed through the director of the school of engineering for advice, opinion, recommendation and/or approval.

3. Please make it a point to use english as our medium of instruction to help elevate the skills of our students in this language. Please provide opportunities for them to present something in class in english. If you need help with regards to this matter, just let me know and we can
brainstorm for some ideas.

4. We will have an Engineering Week in mid February. Please make your expertise available to our students. Also please make it a point to attend the activities during that week and make adjustments in your classes so that the engineering students can be freed up to do their assigned tasks on that week. This is a chance for us to show what we can do at our school so that we can attract more students to our cause and way of life."

From the first two, this targets his not meeting his students on Wednesdays even before sending the request for change of schedule.

The second one is because he once went directly to the dean about his plea.

During one of our promotion/reclassification/renewal meetings, even the dean and the vice dean have admitted to him being very relaxed in his lecture classes that he reverts to the vernacular, which may be part of the reason why the students feel it is alright to do so when they report.

The last one hits him again when he did not show up for the culmination of Engineering Week last year, exhibiting just how much dedication he has to the students and their efforts, when he would rather just stay home and watch DVDs or tend to their family business when he's being paid for 40 hours a week here.

The funny thing is that there was a car exhibit during one of those days, and everyone was saying he should have been there to test drive one of the cars that they brought, since he is so much the car expert, and so his absence was much noticed.

Session 1989 has his laziness in the administration crosshairs. Class dismissed.
