Academic: A "Major Victory" for a Major Slacker

Student "edition" found at {csi dot journalspace dot com}.

Maybe I shouldn't have started this blog now, not with everything that's been going on.

I just found out one advantage of having the title label, besides being an indication for people I want to read this journal of the kind of topic they may like to scan through or avoid.

It tells me at a glance of the current contents page when I may be writing too many of one type and not enough of another.

Which is why it's good I'll be leaning away from the personal stuff for today.

One bit of sad news: Ephraim has enrolled again. This is after letting his "parent" talk on the phone to the head of the registrar's office, even though they were supposed to talk to the dean.

I would not have allowed that, because for this type of underachiever, it's possible for him to just ask someone to call up and pretend to be his mother and father, just so he could keep the illusion at home that his studies are fine, and ask for tuition.

And surprise of surprises, in his list of classes for this term, Computer Programming 2 is enrolled again. Will he make the effort this time, just this one time or every time from now on?

Or will he go to extremes and cheat? That's up to the teacher to guard against, which would be easy enough when giving a practical or verbal exam, that can be arranged with little work.

He should be warned that in stricter schools, just failing the same subject twice is already a cause for expulsion, having five failures in one school year, or eighteen units total, which is like getting an F in all subjects enrolled for one term.

My only consolation is that I can up that accumulation when he eventually becomes my student, and if he doesn't shift, that is a certainty.

I mean, if he doesn't show marked improvement in his studies.

And here I was just talking about bad teachers in the student accessible version.

Then again, this is the opposite of passing every student regardless of effort.

Session 1995 is rationalizing, just like the bad student. Class dismissed.
