Personal/Academic: Greed, Besides the Vocation, Unites Us

Student "edition" found at {csi dot journalspace dot com}.

Maybe I shouldn't have started this blog now, not with everything that's been going on.

The credit cooperative of the employees of the district (at least in this side of the island) had their annual general assembly earlier.

Not all of the employees though, just those who want to set aside a small portion of their paychecks for a rainy day, against whose total they can borrow up to twice as much for up to a period of two years - again by salary deduction installment.

Besides getting a hundred pesos early bird registration for those who show up before 9am, the thousand peso bonus they always give during the winter holidays (up from five hundred a few years ago) and free snacks and lunch, they also give away cash to those who provide entertainment intermissions during the meeting, there is a raffle of about thirty thousand pesos total in portion from two hundred to three thousand, and this is when the yearly dividend checks are given.

For the loans, they also have something called the patronage fee, which gives back the loanee a part of the interest they paid, a sort of thank you for making the cooperative profit more.

I have been a member since the mid nineties, pegging my contribution to five hundred pesos per payday, although there was a time it went up to around two thousand. I've won in the raffle several times, because of the higher percentage of winning.

There are about three thousand members, about a thousand of which go to the general assembly, and there are about a hundred raffle prizes.

Today I was also able to see several of my former co-teachers and friends in the faculty and staff of the various campuses in the district, although not Galatea, I think she's not working in the district anymore. There would have been a higher chance of seeing her at that Nobel Prize winner talk I discussed a while back, and I did prepare for that eventuality, although it didn't occur. After all, there were at least three tiers to the auditorium, and for some reason I was in the most prestigious side (front row center). If she saw me from the heavens, the crush of people leaving afterwards may have deterred her.

That is, if she was interested in talking to me at all, which is fine with me either way. Again, assuming she was there.

Session 2007 sort of rambled towards that last point. Class dismissed.
