Academic: More Than A Fair Shot at Passing My Subjects

Student "edition" found at {csi dot journalspace dot com}.

Maybe I shouldn't have started this blog now, not with everything that's been going on.

Hopefully three students of mine will be taking a special exam in Assembly Language later.

Two of them, during the Friday two weeks ago when I had the regular exam, went instead on an assembly in another campus for leaders of student organizations, something I think was a little too late because these people are only three months from the end of their term.

It would have been more worthwhile scheduled sometime middle of last year.

The third student is someone who had the chicken pox in the past week, the second such student I know who did (the first had to delay the start of his OJT because of the outbreak, and also showed up last week to talk to the school director about it).

Anyway, I have to make a new set of questions for these people.

But in the interrim we have had a week's full of new topics. There is a temptation to include some concepts from that, especially since special exams are to be discouraged by making it more difficult than the regular exam, commensurate with the increased amount of review time the student has
(but doesn't necessarily take) as well as having an idea from their classmates about the type of questions the teacher has given.

On another hand, the new slacker student I talked about recently could also be taking this exam, but I have seen no initiative on his part (I know that sounds kind of mean - apologies to the writer of those lyrics) to rectify the situation.

He didn't attend anytime during the first week when I gave the policy that make up exams can only be given to those who pass an excuse letter or a medical certificate for the absence up to a week after they started going to class again, which for him is tomorrow. If he claims that he did not know, I will tell him that it is his responsibility as an upperclassman student, to determine, and not be handheld like a freshman.

I'm also getting close to being able to invoke "failure due to excessive absences" on his part if I really need another reason to give him a zero.

Session 2011 will be given all the fair opportunities only if they ask for it in due time. Class dismissed.
