Academic: Students Who Ironically Want More Paperwork

Student "edition" found at {csi dot journalspace dot com}.

Maybe I shouldn't have started this blog now, not with everything that's been going on.

Yesterday I was called to the Dean's office for the first time this term/year.

I was told by the secretary that it was about the elections, although at the time I was already thinking it would be about him leaving and what I should do with the plans we had discussed before about sustaining and furthering my continued employment.

Anyway, apparently, the newly formed political party that has fielded candidates for the upcoming Student Council elections wants to be formally recognized.

Not only that, according to the letter they gave, they want to be autonomous from the Student Organizations, also admitting that they still have to abide by the rules of the Office of Student Affairs.

They also mentioned something about having activities (possibly like outreach) besides their recruitment efforts at the start of the school year.

The dean and I talked about it, and I also asked their faculty adviser about it.

To borrow a phrase from a recent online journal post of one of my friends, there are a lot of lines being blurred here with this.

First of all - and this is what I told the head of that political party - just by accepting their candidates, they are already informally recognized, and formal recognition has never been given.

If I were to give formal recognition to any political party, I said, it would be to one who has shown sustainability beyond the graduation of its founders, such as the current ruling party.

But they have never asked for formal recognition, not believing they need it.

Also, the dean said something about being accused that their activities may be pre-campaign targeted, so they really can't hold those.

Now it's only a question about whether I have to give them a formal letter about the decision as the faculty adviser of the election commission.

Session 2041 has still a lot to learn about reducing red tape in school policy making. Class dismissed.
