Academic/Personal: The Dean Debacle Latest Chapter Etc.

Student "edition" found at {csi dot journalspace dot com}.

Maybe I shouldn't have started this blog now, not with everything that's been going on.

Just a few tidbits today about different things, some of which are in the middle of the stories I've been telling for some time.

First, last night I was able to talk to my teacher in graduate studies, who is a former co-teacher of our outgoing dean. She said they haven't gotten any solid word from the dean if he's coming back.

I got the next step in the rumor about him being offered the position of vice chancellor for academics in the main campus of the district.

Apparently, after last November, when he informed the district brother president about his decision, he was asked if it was OK for him to be in the position of vice chancellor.

So he replied, "Yes", that it's OK with him. But that was as far as that conversation went. Everyone knows he's leaving as dean at the end of the school year, but it's either that the administration of the district is assuming that he will just be returning to his former job (as dean of the college of computer studies before becoming executive vice president of our campus).

So he hasn't had any formal talk or correspondence with the administration about what role he'll be taking as soon as his job here is done.

@@ In other news, in the Computer Systems Organization class I have, we had our third exam earlier. The style of the exam is different from the previous ones, where I just gave less than five items that they were supposed to solve in several steps.

But I realized in that instance, if they don't even know the preliminaries, they will not be able to finish each problem and they will only get partial points for what I assume to be the part of the process that they were able to solve correctly.

So today's exam was thirty items of questions that could be answered in half a minute to about ten minutes each. Not surprisingly, they still complained. But at the very least, I will be able to gauge the extent of their knowledge more accurately.

Session 2087 is finding things out intentionally and accidentally. Class dismissed.
