A/P: "Eat What I Cook, Not What I Eat"

Student "edition" found at {csi dot journalspace dot com}.

Maybe I shouldn't have started this blog now, not with everything that's been going on.

The other day I was talking in the student accessible version about the least a school being able to do is to hire the graduates they produce (otherwise it shows lack of confidence in their education), which makes it something of the last resort of the unemployed.

Now I have three examples of that not being true for this school, only one, I think, of which I've reported so far.

The first is Mr. Compulsive Liar being rejected by the Registrar's Office, the Student Affairs Office and the college faculty despite (maybe because of) all his bragging to his classmates even before graduating. Does it give him a temporary adrenaline rush to have others hear him say those things, even if he's deluding himself?

On a side note, does that happen to all people seeking verbal attention sometimes by spouting trivia, knowing their voices are audible to those around, even if the others aren't even interested or may just be too polite to walk away or tell them to shut up?

The second is our only communication arts graduate for 2007, whose younger brother was working in our Human Resources department. When he found work in a nearby call center (same position) offering twice the benefits, his brother immediately applied here (since he couldn't apply because of the “no relatives” clause to prevent nepotism), only to be told (somewhat suspiciously) by the outgoing dean that there is no opening. I told him to apply again after the dean left.

My third instance are not even graduates, but Computer Science OJT takers. Two weeks ago I thought they, since they couldn't find any companies close needing people with their skills, would be working in school as a last resort. Apparently though it's not the case, as told to them that the head of the IT department declined.

It may not be solely that person's decision though, but a combination of his and the teachers of the CS department who know about their capabilities, as may be evidenced by one of the teachers saying yes when I asked her by text if she was aware of the denial.

Belatedly I realized I may not have phrased my question tactfully enough that I may have seemed to be questioning a consensus that she had a part in making.

On the other hand, these are the students who protested when the then-head of the IT department was their teacher in networking, and didn't teach anything.

Are we afraid now of possible sabotaging retribution on their part, even if that head is now also resigned a term after the protest, whose job hunt may or may not have been triggered by the incident?

Session 2171 seems to be forgetting the quality of output we have to the world. Class dismissed.
