A/P: The Difference A Line Makes

Student "edition" found at {csi dot journalspace dot com}.

Maybe I shouldn't have started this blog now, not with everything that's been going on.

The college secretary delivered me some bad news earlier. It was regarding the Outstanding Teacher Award, for whom we first get the top three teachers who received great student evaluations as nominees.

In the list initially given to me, there were six names instead of three listed.

This is because the second one listed is on leave for this term (but still was eligible all throughout last school year, for which period the award is being given). Doesn't make him ineligible though.

The third name written was a teacher who at the start of the school year is now a full time director of the mission office and now only a part time faculty, but again - all throughout last year was a full time faculty and therefore eligible.

The fifth name written (as an alternative, supposedly to replace the last two) was last year's winner, so a sixth name was added.

Now, one of those last two teachers added, who looks at her evaluations diligently and computes them, (having an average of 6.6 out of 7.0) was just curious about her standing - for her own personal improvement - and asked the faculty in charge.

That was when they discovered the discrepancy, since one of her previous term's evalation was listed as 6.02 instead of 6.62.

And therein lies the error. So if the strict rule of three nominees is followed, Mr. Mission Office would have to be bumped off - from a list that was already posted yesterday afternoon.

I'm reluctant to do that though, since it's his last year being eligible, and at least, I would not want to deprive him the honor of being a nominee just once, and still possibly win.

I hope no one complains about this decision that I, as former awardee, made.

Session 2257 preaches not what is being practiced. Class dismissed.
