A/P: A Repeating Rut of A Rant I Want to Get Out Of

Student "edition" found at {csi dot journalspace dot com}.

Maybe I shouldn't have started this blog now, not with everything that's been going on.

Minor E-Frame news: he showed up in Graphics One class earlier, asked what figure was going to be assigned to him, but he spent the entire class studying for his next class, Thermodynamics.

In my book, that amounts to an absence, because late submission is a privilege to those who worked during the period but were not able to finish the plate, not those who abuse the extension.

As for the other student with excessive absences who wrote a commitment letter, he showed up at half past the hour, which means he's technically absent again. So he shouldn't be surprised if he gets a failing grade at the end of the course because of that.

One thing these students are assuming that is not true is that if the teacher doesn't bowl them out anytime during the term, then they still have a chance of passing. Yes, that may be true, but only if they have done the minimum work per meeting.

This is probably because they hope to beg the teacher for reconsideration when he says "you don't have to come to class anymore".

But by the time the teacher says that, even if they do go to class early each time and do all the work, it's already too late.

Usually this is because they have not gained the momentum of effort from the start of the term, especially if we're talking about complex topics founded on earlier already difficult concept.

Also, just attending doesn't mean passing. It's not just showing up, it's also about showing the teacher that you comprehend.

Besides, not being informed of their progress in class (or lack of it), means that they will have to do more than the assumed minimum work "just to be safe", which most of them don't think to do.

Well, so much for minor news, that soapbox took an entire post again.

Session 2309 wants to stop dealing with students like these by not allowing them to enroll in the first place. Class dismissed.
