A/P: It's All Over For This Student But the Crying

Student "edition" found at {csi dot journalspace dot com}.

Maybe I shouldn't have started this blog now, not with everything that's been going on.

E-frame news: over the weekend he gave me a missed call on my mobile phone then sent a text message saying that only now does he have time to do all of his plates, so he is asking if he can pass them on the twenty sixth (yesterday) along with the project.

I didn’t reply. I would have rather that he approached me in person about his predicament.

The thing is, he also sent a text message to LG, my co-teacher in this subject, saying that he was “ashamed” of passing his plates late, despite the fact that he had done that before in the first part of the term, and that he didn’t know about the 10% per day deduction. It doesn’t mean it won’t be applied to him though.

It wouldn’t be fair to his classmates. Besides, he’s old enough to know it ought to be better to err on the side of caution and submit something whether it’s late or not rather than not submit it at all. As it goes, it’s like he’s of the attitude that he’d ask the teacher first about it in case it happens that he’d fail anyway, so he’d rather not make the effort if it would be wasted.

It’s also funny that when LG reacted, he said he might have been too harsh in his reply to E-frame, and at the same time, said he wished he knew how to answer those kinds of obviously false pleadings made by slacking students. Then, he didn’t show up for the final exam yesterday, only telling his partner in the project by text that he’s on his way after the exam was finished.

That means I’m waiting for his excuse letter before I give him a special exam, which, of course, is different from those of the first examinees. The exam type this time is not the same as what I gave my first graphics one class.

Last time (three years ago?) it was to make a solid figure out of cardboard given two out of three views.

Now it’s completing all the views (either isometric or orthographic) depending on what’s missing, and using the grids with the dots instead of having triangular rulers.

As is policy, since he has more time to study and could have asked his classmates of the questions, then his exam is more difficult. The first exam was only mostly two by two by three unit figures, and two three by three by four unit figures.

His would be 2 x 3 x 3 and 3 x 4 x 4 unit figures, but same number of items.

Session 2331 doesn’t think not telling the student he has no chance to pass at this point isn’t fair. Class dismissed.
