A/P: Week 2, Day 1 and Already Post 3 about 1 Student

Student "edition" found at {csi dot journalspace dot com}.

Maybe I shouldn't have started this blog now, not with everything that's been going on.

His exercise was in pencils again. Of course to prevent him from erasing his wrong answers, correcting them and telling me to recheck it, I had to write the correct answers there for him to see.

He had a question during one of the first lectures about a shortcut to solving for conversion of 16 bit registers to 8 bit equivalents.

I told him I was planning to give it as an assignment. When he got the answer correctly and was going to pass it in class, he asked if he would get a bonus as the only one to pass the assignment.

I said someone else, (the class dean's lister) also gave the answer.

But he had to emphasize that everyone else got zero, on the BONUS assignment.

And speaking of bonuses, he heard about the field trip this Saturday.

I told him travel was two hours in a cramped shuttle, which turned him off.

It still didn't prevent him from asking if he could ask for the impressions of any of his classmates or research about it on the net then submit a reaction paper. He doesn't get that it's not about the grade, it's about the experience garnered.

He asked if the lab exercise can be done at home. Well good luck with that, if he doesn't have anyone to assist him with even creating the sample programs, which is why it's best done in school.

On the positive note, he does listen to lectures now and writes what I say, but he is still selective about which part of the board to write and knows when he could postpone copying something until the end of the period, where he delays the next class.

But unless someone else is there to be alert and know the answers to the questions I ask, I can't perform the reverse recitation bit.

And the other students may suffer from this sped up teaching style unless I provide them with additional consultation sessions.

Session 2365 will have to perform under the student desk negotiations again. Class dismissed.
