If They Win They Think Their Teachers Can't Fail Them

Student "edition" found at {csi dot journalspace dot com}.

Maybe I shouldn't have started this blog now, not with everything that's been going on.

Yesterday there was a "pep rally" for the players of the school's college basketball team, who have a championship game tomorrow.

I was confused at the start why the rally was to be held in the sports office.

After all, I know the pep squad members are also invited, and it seemed like an awfully small space for them to do their cheers and flips.

I wasn't even really planning to go, as it was after the Institutional Christmas Celebration committee meeting and I needed time to settle down, before leaving the school for the week.

But I was actually fetched by the ball custodian on orders from his boss.

So I went, and was surprised to find the central area dominated by a table laden with food; so it was THAT kind of gathering.

I wasn't actually surprised with the brother president's facial reaction when he arrived, although he didn't say anything.

With the austerity drive the school is in, here we had someone who already PAID for the chickens BEFORE the eggs were hatched.

Anyway, there were speeches and prayers, including from the team captain ball who apparently the players didn't show any respect for by making all these noises while he was speaking.

So much for having all of the students support and even KNOW that we have a basketball team by holding it in the covered court where the pep squad and the students can cheer on their schoolmates.

And how much worse would they feel if they actually lost tomorrow, which I wouldn't find too bad, since some of the students already have the attitude and elitism of the worst kind of league players without having the academic performance to back it up, despite the fact that they were not recruited to play.

Session 2459 doesn't get that the team says their exposure is for recruitment: they think students already in college who see them play will TRANSFER here after seeing them lose? Class dismissed.
