Loving Teaching Again

Student "edition" found at {thoughts dot com slash typed no space out no space loud slash blog}.

Maybe I shouldn't have started this blog now, not with everything that's been going on.

Here's what I've discussed in astronomy class so far: definition of a constellation, cycles of the recognizable celestial bodies across the sky, the apparent non-motion of the stars, the origin of the name of the galaxy, the pre-Roman monthly calendar, the celestial sphere as a beach ball, the speed of light, the difference between comets and shooting stars, nebulae, star clusters, astrology, super giants and supernovas, the reverse compass directions of star maps.

I also already gave them their diagnostic test on the misconceptions in astronomy, and started on three of the constellations from all those we'll be discussing.

It's only been one and a half weeks (one week if I only count the lectures, and I'm already thoroughly enjoying myself.

@@ Three burdens so far taken off my shoulders for the term: the technical panel for the faculty manual revision, the student handbook revision committee, and the discipline officership.

The first one was given to slacker co-teacher, who was my fellow top nominee during our voting.

He won by toss coin, but I think the director went behind our backs on it and gave it back to him (he really is the one who has a lot of suggestions, just sneaky and manipulative in the agitative way that he wants other people to like and put forward his ideas, but not be identified by the administration as the malcontent).

Second was given to a co-teacher who had left before to go to Australia, but is now back.

Third is now in the hands of a college teacher who, when he applied here, was accepted in the integrated school.

He is also the adviser of their student council, so he's well versed in extracurricular activities.

Besides my master's subject of theory of programming languages this term, which so far I'm thoroughly enjoying (phrase of the day) there's also the engineering week preparations, the elections and the coming integrated school organized concert merged with the band fest, and another valentine time-frame concert.

My days and nights are full, even on the weekends, at least this particular weekend.

It's fiesta in our community, and there are two baby related events invited to: a first birthday and a baptismal, but these are on consecutive weekends after this one.

Session 2513 likes looking back the past 1.5 weeks, and looking forward. Class dismissed.
