A Faulty Assessment Tool

Student "edition" found at {thoughts dot com slash typed no space out no space loud slash blog}.

Maybe I shouldn't have started this blog now, not with everything that's been going on.

As mentioned in the student accessible version, I realized today, according to our former school president's assessment that I'm of a different persuasion in terms of teaching compared to my co-teachers who attended the congress.

Of course I put the lowest scores to agreeing that the student plays a major part in deciding how to go about learning or how to be evaluated in a subject.

There were at least three items of the same variation in the "survey" that I put strong disagreement in.

Fortunately, my co-teacher, the new director for the school of arts and sciences, told me that it wasn't true.

After all, I told her about the astronomy lab where I had the students bring the materials and told them the objective but they had to come up with their own methodology.

The congress made me think about whether it's really better for the administrators to drag the teachers outside of the classroom to find out how to make the students learn better, or if statistics (measurement or assessment needs) should be analyzed on how the graduates are faring in their chosen careers.

Is it true what they say that administrators are too far up the pyramid of power that they don't see the grassroots anymore, which is what is important?

A corollary is it's the teachers who see what must be done to be able to make education most effective; sadly, they don't have the power to implement the needed changes.

@@ I bet I'm going to be getting a lot of texts or calls on my phone tomorrow.

This will probably be from students who want to clarify what their scores are.

This will only be the second time that I won't be around for course card distribution.

The last time was when I was in the summer capital in December for the youth congress.

It's strange how that's parallel, except this is a different type of congress now.

Session 2641 is just taking these assessments one day at the time. Class dismissed.
