New Camp, New Campers, Must Be New Activities

Student "edition" found at {thoughts dot com slash typed no space out no space loud slash blog}.

Maybe I shouldn't have started this blog now, not with everything that's been going on.

There are a lot of new lessons from the recently concluded leadership camp.

First of all, you can suggest something to be implemented for the activities, and even enforce it with your authority, but if the personnel aren't behind it, they won't support it, and that would be felt by the participants.

Second, it pays to still bug those delegated to perform tasks about the status of their assignments.

Otherwise, come crunch time, there will still be a lot of surprises on the main instigator's part as to what was and what as not accomplished, and to what degree.

This is the camp that had the worst problems in terms of getting people focused.

Why? This is the camp that actually had three couples attending, and one pair, despite our best efforts to put them in sub-groups, on sitting beside each other.

These are also the people, just like in the retreat, who would try to sneak off after lights out to have time together, which, for some, they don't get at home or school.

So this will be a main consideration for whether next year's camp will be overnight or not.

Let's just hope it doesn't conflict with the fact that up to two days before the camp, the final list of participants still isn't set, and new names may have couples in them.

What I'm also surprised with is that some of the student facilitators thanked me for choosing them.

They honestly didn't expect it, feeling that there are others more deserving of the honor.

That's exactly the type of leader I want: humble, not those who only work so that those in charge will see it and give them the honors or assignments they want.

I agree with the evaluation that there should be more time for activities and interactive analysis and less for sit down lectures, no matter how important.

Session 2655 will try to get that into the next camp, especially since the new facilitators will not be of the school that the social action aspect is paramount. Class dismissed.
