Talking to the Wrong People

Student "edition" found at {thoughts dot com slash typed no space out no space loud slash blog}.

Maybe I shouldn't have started this blog now, not with everything that's been going on.

Update on our runaway former student: earlier at lunch one of our students asked us if mobile phones can be bugged.

Apparently he was with the runaway student over the weekend, and somehow the PNP was able to pinpoint that.

He even said they drove in front of the girl's house, but she just looked at it and didn't go out.

It was the girl who called or texted him and said that the police knew they were together that day.

I know that the mother filed a report with the police and all, but is it enough to trace the mobile phones of her friends?

Particularly since this friend isn't even the closest one that the mother said she talked to when she was last here.

It could be through the mother of the student though who he admits talks to the mother of the runaway.

But even then, we are still inclined to believe that it's just someone following his car, and not anything as efficient as electronic surveillance. I know how that sounds.

Besides, it's not like she was caught and dragged straight home again. Maybe it's just her paranoia.

The guy also says that the girl now has a job, with a fifty thousand peso pre-termination clause, a standard practice now with some companies providing training usable elsewhere.

He said it's one way for the girl to ensure that she won't go back to school, but then, if that company ever finds out about her circumstances, despite being 20 years old, they could claim misrepresentation on the part of the girl before she was hired.

I don't even know that the guy is worried about. Will he be more cautious now next time they meet?

Or will the girl not want to hang out with him anymore if it means her mom will find her?

I'm telling this wrong though, it was only halfway through our conversation with they guy, who was only asking about mobile phone tracing, that he admitted he was with the runaway.

This was to assure us that he wasn't asking for help evading the authorities because of illegal activities.

I won't even report this to the brother president now since he said we are hands off already.

Session 2707 is just glad to be in some kind of loop and not completely in the dark about this. Class dismissed.
